About The Northiam & District Historical & Literary Society

The Society's aim is to provide entertaining and informative talks and events with local themes and links.

 

The Society was founded around 1952. The original “Objects” of the Society as stated in its Constitution were “to promote, research and study history and archaeology in all its branches and to promote an interest in literature generally”. It is fair to say that The Society currently endeavours to link its talks to topics relating to local history and literature, but it has not been proactive in the research and study of history and archaeology in recent times.

 

The Society would be very grateful to anyone who has any further background information or anecdotes that we could add to this section.
